Welcome to my blog

This is my first blog entry, and I suppose I should start out as most do, by introducing myself and explaining my reasons for joining the blogosphere. My name is T. Scott Brandon, and I have been a baseball fan for my entire life, at least as much of it as I can remember. Though I love playing and watching the game, I find that my greatest enjoyment comes from researching baseball history, and sharing that history through trivia questions, anecdotes, and theme teams (more on that later...). I have been a member of the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR) for over ten years, and love the cameraderie of fellow baseball history lovers, not to mention the research tools available from and through the organization.

On March 12, 1997 I started an e-mail baseball trivia list, with an original membership of 10 participants. Over the last 11+ years that list, moderated diligently by fellow SABR member D. Bruce Brown, has grown to include thousands of baseball fans and historians. The first question asked to the e-mail group, and the first question I will pose on this blog was:

Which member of the 3,000 hit club retired with exactly the same number of regular-season Major League hits at home and on the road?

As with the e-mail list, feel free to respond if you think you know the answer. In this case, simply post a comment (using the comments link below) to this post. Tomorrow, along with a new question, I will post the answer to the previously-asked question. Each of the questions asked will relate to a weekly theme, with themes ranging from seven to 15-or-so questions per week. In addition to the daily question, you can feel free to take a stab at the theme. The only requests I have are that you keep your posts clean (this is a family-friendly forum, after all) and you try not to spoil the fun for others (by doing things such as posting the names of remaining players once you've figured out the theme).

As time goes on, I will also add commentary, and may have contests, such as a player identification contest using little-known photos of famous players, or even showing pictures of historically significant players you may not be familiar with, such as:

Feel free to post comments with your image ID guesses as well.

More tomorrow...
